It was a Night to Celebrate at Slaton ISD's November Board Meeting
If you drove by Central Office last night, you could tell something special was going on at the Slaton ISD November board meeting. The room was packed to standing-room-only as students from across the district were honored for their outstanding achievements. From academic excellence to extracurricular accomplishments, the night was filled with pride and celebration!
Students from every campus were recognized for their hard work and dedication. Among the highlights were the winners of the annual Christmas card contest—one from each campus—showcasing the creative talent of Slaton ISD students. Choir students from both Junior High and High School received heartfelt applause from the overflow crowd for their award-winning performances, a true testament to their talent and teamwork.
The students of the month were also recognized, each giving a report about their respective campuses—CTE, SFA, Junior High, and High School—helped along by their enthusiastic principals. It was clear that these young leaders take pride in their schools, and their energy was contagious!
But perhaps the most inspiring part of the evening came when the district’s dedicated educators, coaches, and staff were celebrated for their unwavering commitment to the success of every student. Superintendent Shelli Conkin, along with principals, teachers, and coaches, received high praise from parents and community members for the passion and effort they pour into creating a welcoming, respectful, and productive environment on each campus.
Parents spoke passionately about the success of Slaton ISD’s Career and Technology programs, the growth of the band program, and the excellence of the district’s athletic programs. Many shared how much their children love going to school—something they had not experienced in a long time. When a SHS student was asked about the four day week by a board member, he gave a positive response pointing to the extra day to catch up on work and to be prepared for the next week. He was also able to work extra hours at the job he holds down. These positive comments reflected the supportive atmosphere that the administration and staff have worked so hard to cultivate.
Superintendent Shelli Conkin and her team have truly made Slaton ISD a district the community can be proud of. It’s clear that the Tiger Train is rolling, and the future is bright for our students.
The SISD Board of Trustees extends a very heartfelt thank you to everyone in attendance for their outpouring of support and their passion about the education every student enrolled in SISD.
As always, it’s a great day to be a Tiger!
