Safe Firearm Storage & Safety

Practice Safe and Responsible Ownership of Firearms

The Texas Department of Public Safety cares deeply about protecting and serving the citizens of Texas. In 2019, 3,683 deaths in Texas were due to firearms, higher than the national rate.

This number has risen every year since 2011. By educating the public about safe gun storage, we can reduce the risks to better protect the citizens of Texas.

During the 87th Legislative Session, the Texas legislature appropriated to the Department of Public Safety $500,000 to establish and promote a statewide safe gun storage campaign.
