Slaton High School Welding Program Shines at the Lubbock County Jr. Livestock Show
At Slaton High School, students are learning more than just technical skills—they’re building projects that make a real impact. Under the expert guidance of Welding Technology instructor Cody Kinch, a group of dedicated students recently earned top honors at the Lubbock County Jr. Livestock Show. The team, including Cason Brown, Bobby Quintero, Luke Varela, and Jaden Alvear, worked tirelessly to create a 40' flatbed gooseneck trailer that not only showcased their skills but also earned the prestigious Grand Champion Ag Mechanics Project title.
For two and a half months, these students poured a combined 600 hours into the project. The trailer was more than just a school assignment; it was a labor of love and an opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship that the Slaton High School Welding Technology Program is known for. The result? A stunning and highly functional trailer that impressed judges a great deal.
These students' hard work will not go unnoticed. On January 18th, they’ll be rewarded for their dedication at the Premium Sale, where their Grand Champion project will be recognized. This achievement is a testament to the skills they’ve developed through their program, and the effort they put into every weld, every measurement, and every step along the way.
Slaton Independent School District is incredibly proud of these students and their accomplishments. Their success at the Lubbock County Jr. Livestock Show speaks to the high level of training and mentorship provided by instructor Cody Kinch and the commitment these students have to their craft. This Grand Champion project is just the beginning for these young welders, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next.
