See It, Smell It, Taste It, Write It! Learning Sensory Details

Our 4th Grade RLA students are learning how to bring their writing to life by focusing on sensory details. This week, they wrote and shared about an interesting food memory, describing it through taste, smell, sight, sound, and touch.
Learning about sensory details helps elementary students:
-
Expand their vocabulary by using descriptive words.
-
Engage their readers with vivid and relatable imagery.
-
Strengthen their observation skills by noticing the world around them.
-
Develop stronger writing voices that connect thoughts and feelings.
These skills don’t just make writing more fun—they also help students become more effective communicators. Way to go, 4th graders!
