Beyond the Classroom: SJH Day of Service Inspires Students to Make a Difference
This incredible day saw students and teachers alike rolling up their sleeves and working side by side to engage in a variety of service projects. The energy was palpable, the smiles contagious, and the experiences unforgettable. Here’s a look at how our students put their hands and hearts to work:
❤️ Fighting Hunger: Students sorted food donations for the Santa Red and Blue Food Drive, ensuring families in need will have meals during the holidays.
🖤 Bringing Joy to Seniors: Visits to Library of Legacies and the Slaton Care Center allowed students to connect with residents by playing games and sharing stories.
❤️ Improving Recreation Spaces: The cleanup of old tennis courts will soon pave the way for community pickleball games and other activities.
🖤 Spreading Holiday Cheer: From decorating Slaton ISD’s Central Office and SJH to hanging ornaments on the SJH Christmas tree on The Square, students infused the town with holiday spirit.
❤️ Building Relationships with Younger Students: SJH Tigers read books, played games, and tidied up at Cathelene Thomas Elementary and Stephen F. Austin Primary campuses.
🖤 Caring for the Hungry and Homebound: Students packed and prepared meals for Meals on Wheels, delivering kindness with each bag.
❤️ Enhancing Community Spaces: Cleanup efforts at the City Library and The Harvey House demonstrated our commitment to preserving local landmarks.
🖤 Appreciating First Responders: Students crafted and delivered appreciation bags to Slaton’s Police and Fire Departments, showing gratitude to those who serve us daily.
❤️ Small Acts, Big Smiles: They painted windows at Pretty Please Salon for Christmas, replaced basketball nets around town, and even started plans to repair rims in the future.
Each of these projects reflects our belief in the value of service, teamwork, and the importance of giving back to the community we call home. It was a day filled with laughter, connection, and pride—a true reminder that “it’s always a great day to be a Tiger!”
We are incredibly thankful to the organizations that welcomed our help, the parents who joined us, and the students who approached each task with enthusiasm and compassion. The Day of Service is not just about what we accomplish—it’s about fostering a mindset of care, leadership, and responsibility that students will carry with them for years to come.
Here’s to continuing this tradition and finding new ways to serve and grow as a community. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
Together, Tigers serve. Together, Tigers shine.
